Jennifer Zahlit makes films about tender outsiders navigating the humor and heartbreak of modern intimacy.
Jennifer Zahlit is a director who grew up playing viola and performing in theatre, where she developed a love for collaborative storytelling.
After graduating from USC’s School of Dramatic Arts and training with Steppenwolf Theatre Company, she moved to New York. There, she directed her first short film and an off-off-Broadway sold-out play, marking her shift toward directing. Her short films have since won awards and screened at festivals nationally.
Back in Los Angeles, she built her filmmaking practice by directing site-specific plays, creating independent shorts, and co-creating the A Brighter Lens podcast, collaborating with a wide range of artists along the way.
Her work focuses on tender outsiders navigating the humor and heartbreak of modern intimacy. She recently completed her debut feature, FRIEND DIVORCE, which she co-wrote and directed, independently producing and distributing the film.
